Health benefits of ginger- especially for men

Ginger is such a versatile ingredient that it has been used for several decades in tea, ginger ale, salads, curries, smoothies and a variety of other foods. It is also known as a miracle cure for a plethora of health woes, like easing stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, fighting infections, and even lowering the risk of heart stroke and cancer.

Ginger has also been shown to have inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It can be especially beneficial to men as it has the potential to inhibit prostate cancer cell growth.

Inhibits Prostate cancer cell growth

According to a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, scientists conducted experiments on mice where ginger extract was added to a variety of prostate cancer cells in mice with prostate cancer. When the scientists observed the effect of ginger extract on prostate cancer cells, they found that ginger inhibited the cell growth and helped in cancer cell destruction.

From these experiments conducted on mice, scientists learned that ginger does have the ability to stop the growth of cancer cells by 56 percent. Another important thing they observed was that the spice did not cause any toxicity in other normal tissues.

Prevents Colorectal Cancer

According to studies, colorectal, or colon, cancer is responsible for causing the second highest number of cancer-related deaths in the United States alone. Men are more likely to be diagnosed with this kind of cancer than women. Hence, ginger’s potential to ward off or prevent colon cancer is vital to a man’s health.

In a study published in the issue of “Cancer Research” in 2009 at the University of Minnesota, scientists found that the spice causing constituent of ginger, gingerol, may help in the treatment and prevention of cancer. More clinical trials are being conducted based on these findings to explore ginger’s use in chemoprevention for colon cancer.

Correcting infertility and erectile dysfunction

Ginger is a good source of some vitamins and minerals which are essential to men’s health. It has some crucial properties to help men suffering from infertility and erectile dysfunction.

Manganese is a component of ginger, is essential to the neurological health and may help in infertility and erectile disorders. Increasing the use of ginger in daily life can bring in so many benefits for men to lead a healthy life.

Heart disease and high Blood pressure

Heart diseases are the number one cause of death in men, states the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Ginger has properties to help in the prevention of heart diseases as it contains important nutrients such as vitamin-B6, magnesium, and potassium. Vitamin-B6 lowers the blood pressure, hence lowering your chances of heart stroke as high blood pressure eventually leads to a heart stroke.

Prevents Diabetes

The components manganese and magnesium present in ginger may also play a role in the treatment of diabetes. According to studies at the University of Maryland Medical Center, both of these minerals help to regulate the blood sugar levels in both diabetic and non-diabetic men. Hence, ginger may be a very important spice in the prevention and treatment of the complications that may arise from diabetes in men.

Ginger, being a spice used in a variety of food dishes, should be included in the daily diet for extracting the most out of its curing properties.

Ginger extracts can also be found in the form of tinctures, capsules, oils, and tea. To reap ginger benefits, take no more than 4 grams of ginger daily, including from food. The suggested dose is 75 to 2000 mg of standardized ginger in divided doses taken with food.
