The most awaited time in a pregnancy is the baby’s movements which we more commonly refer to as kicks. The special feelings of a mother cannot be explained in words. Women notice and become aware of their baby moving as their pregnancy progresses. Babies bounce around in the womb starting from early weeks of pregnancy but most women will only start feeling the movements from 16 or 18 weeks.

The baby’s movements can tell you a lot about what your baby us doing and how well is he feeling. Here are some common types of kicks babies give you.


First time moms will be waiting more anxiously for their baby’s first kick as it is heard more commonly. Well, the first time you will feel your baby will not actually be a kick as it will be a light fluttering feeling in the abdomen. You may at first think if it was your baby moving or just gas. Women come across different types of kicks when they feel them initially and as they get stronger. Also, women will describe their feeling differently from other women. Tapping is still an initial baby’s movement when he is tiny and is taking his time to make significant movements for the mother to realize. You may think like the baby is trying to make you used to in advance as he will be keeping you awake until months after birth.

Women may experience more rolling than kicking or punching as it depends on what their baby likes doing. You will be able to see from outside when the baby rolls. An exciting moment to share with your loved ones as you notice your baby move in any way and start feeling it from the outside as well.


Squirming is just like the feeling of a moving snake inside. So, don’t worry if you are feeling that way. Rolling and squirming are feelings you will have when there is only less room for your baby to move inside the womb. The type of movements can make you figure out where your baby is and how is he lying inside. Later in the pregnancy, you will also notice hands and feet of the baby as they push you from inside.


The tickling feeling is a loveable feeling too but what does it mean? You will usually feel tickles when your baby blows bubbles within the amniotic sac. This means your little one is having fun inside and is learning new tricks each day. One way to make your baby move is to shine a light on your belly so the baby gets alert.


Popping feeling is also very common as you feel popcorns popping inside your stomach. This may indicate that your baby is having hiccups. Enjoy the feeling as it is good for your baby’s digestive system.


Not all women will feel the same during pregnancy. Vibrations are felt by some and they are nothing to worry about. Vibrations are often as a result of your baby adjusting to temperture. Making your baby attentive is easy as you can pit a cold cloth on the stomach and this will make him move.


Spasms may feel like there is some hoping going on in your stomach. This is nothing to be worried about as your baby likes to explore and play around your womb.

Violent Movements

Such violent movements can cause you discomfort as they may get painful. You can still try and make your baby move into a different position so it does not hurt you. Moving about will often make your baby sleep and relax.


Sudden pressure can be felt in later stages of pregnancy either in ribs or pelvis. This means that the baby is trying to get out of you and does not have much space to move around. Moving around is again the solution to make your baby move and change position that causes you less discomfort.


Babies can move from 9 weeks and this is when little flutters start which are known as quickening. You may not feel the movements as the baby is padded with lots of layers.


Your baby is very likely to nudge you in later pregnancy as he does not have much space to move around. So, get ready to feel the nudges, rolling, and squirming as your baby grows big.

No Movement – Something Must be Wrong

Experts say that the baby should move at least 10 times in an hour on average to assure everything is fine. No movement for extended period of time may be a warning sign and you should make a visit to your doctor.
