A New Study Reveals the Truth about Molecular Structure of Creams

Researchers have studied the molecular structure of creams that we use. They studied the ingredients and how their components react with each other. However, the results were not as expected. The interaction of molecules in creams was not known until the study was carried out recently by the American Chemical Society.

The stress of going through bad skin is irritating. The discomfort is often relieved with the help of a skin lotion or cream. The skin care companies strive to formulate the right formula that will suit different skin types.

Purpose of Studying Cream Formulation

Standard ingredients are a part of most cream formulas. However, manufacturers do not reveal the interaction method of those ingredients. The interaction of the molecules should be known so that the companies can formulate the products as required. This will improve the cream formulation and their effects on the skin.

The subject did not gain importance until it was recently studied to have an insight into how things work on your skin. The interactions of different ingredients can vary. Companies will benefit from the results as they get to know more about the components.

The molecular structure of creams and lotions for skin were not as expected. The researchers studied the proper creams we use regularly. The student performing the study stated that creams have a fundamental structure. The chemical microstructure and skin structure can be related to know more about skin repair.

The science of creams and their formulation was studied to bring improvements in formulations. This would eventually overcome the barriers in skin repair and allow manufacturers to know what needs to be changed.

How was the Molecular Structure Analysed?

The creams were thoroughly examined to know how the ingredients dispersed. The neutron scattering technique and X-ray were a part of the study. Creams contain surfactants and co-surfactants.

The true structure of cream was studied to know more about the formulation. A preservative known as diol was also added to the formula. Ingredients were replaced with heavier isotopic versions. The samples were then placed for X-ray and neutrons. The scattering pattern of ingredients revealed about how ingredients worked on the skin.

Moreover, the results showed only the presence of co-surfactant in the lamellar layer. The surfactant was not found in that layer as the molecules formed micelles. Preservatives were found in the lamellar layer instead. Want-microbial bias properties, preservatives are also ideal for prolonging life.

The preservatives have a role in the membrane layer of the bilayer system and this is studied in detail by researchers here. Experiments are further performed in detail to understand the dispersion of surfactant micelles. Micelles were not found in the system as they should have been. Therefore, researchers further want to study their place and task in the structure.

Further research will be done on creams to study different ingredients. Skincare products are designed to provide protection to the skin. Personal care companies have taken different ingredients in the formula and this will be studied in future.
