Healthgrades evaluates some 4,500 hospitals in the US for their services and performance for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and medical conditions. It uses Medicare data and considers the outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using data from 15 states.
Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, California has made to America’s 100 Best in Cardiac Care by Healthgrades for offering the best services to heart patients. This news is a part of a press release issued today in the Healthgrades 2020 Report to the Nation. Further, this report highlights why hospital quality is important for patients and physicians.
For the year 2020 report, Healthgrades analyzed America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care Award recipients by making them all one group and all other hospitals, as another group. The cross-evaluation of both, these groups showed that patients visiting the best hospital group in 2016-2018 showed that they had a 28.1% lower risk of death than people visiting other hospitals. People visiting hospitals other than the best hospital group in 2016-2018 were 1.39 times higher risk of death than those visiting award-winning hospitals.

For this analysis, Healthgrades checked about 45 million Medicare inpatient records visiting 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals all around the US. These hospital visits were assessed via hospital performance against 32 common medical conditions and procedures including cardiac problems. The criteria to recognize a hospital’s quality check are through cohort-specific performance and their specialty area performance. It also includes and clinical quality in every hospital offering these services.
