Corporate Partnership of Alzheimer’s Association and CVS Health to Fight Alzheimer’s

The Alzheimer’s Association and CVS Health have declared a three-year corporate partnership to fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

This collaboration is launching an in-store fundraising campaign to provide $10 million that will support Alzheimer’s Association programs. These programs include those that aim at care and support, caregiver education, and disease research.

Provide support to both the Alzheimer’s patient and caregivers

Alzheimer’s disease has affected over 5 million Americans and 16 million caregivers throughout the country.

Kevin Hourican is Executive Vice President at CVS Health and President at CVS Pharmacy. He said that from his experience while caring for his mother suffering from Alzheimer’s he knows how important it is to support both the patient and the caregivers in the patient’s life.

He stated that the partnership of CVS Health with Alzheimer’s Association will fund important programs that will help their customers who care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Moreover, this step will also connect CVS Health to the required resources and services to support their customers.

Nationwide, the in-store fundraising campaign launched on November 3, Sunday, will run at 9,900 CVS Pharmacy locations through November 23. Within these three weeks, customers of the CVS Pharmacy will get the chance to contribute to the Alzheimer’s Association at the register in the nationwide CVS Pharmacy locations.

This in-store fundraising campaign will occur again during the next two Novembers, coinciding with National Family Caregivers Month and National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.

Throughout November the CVS Health and Alzheimer’s Association will communicate with customers about resources and tips available to support family caregivers.

At present, over 16 million friends and family members are serving as Alzheimer’s caregivers. And nearly half (48%) of the total caregivers who provide help older adults are doing so for someone with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.

Paving a path for a better future

Some of the proceeds from this fundraising campaign will be used by the Alzheimer’s Association for the development of a new caregiver education program for online and in-person delivery in English and Spanish.

Donna McCullough is Chief Development Officer at Alzheimer’s Association. According to her, CVS Health is a respected and honored leader in championing important health problems that impact society as a whole.

She said that committed support by their work will make a major difference to millions of Americans influenced by this devastating disease.

Besides the partnership, beginning in 2020, CVS Health will also work as a national presenting sponsor of the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. That is held annually in over 600 communities across the country.

Additionally, CVS Health will also join the event, participating in the National Walk Team Program. That provides an opportunity to its 295,000 employees across the country, allowing them to join in the battle against Alzheimer’s.

McCullough said that the Alzheimer’s Association is grateful for the enthusiasm and commitment CVS Health brings to the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. And the fund raised by this collaboration will strengthen their effort to support families that face Alzheimer’s and advance the required research that will one day change the future for millions.
