‘Beyond type 2’ celebrates its first year anniversary with an exciting news

An international diabetes organization, Beyond Type 1, recently celebrated the second anniversary of their Type 2 Diabetes platform – Beyond Type 2, and with the celebrations came an exciting news.

Beyond Type 2 is an online community that’s specifically designed for people suffering from type 2 diabetes. It provides an outlet for the patients to tell their stories, get in touch with other patients and access resources related to a vast variety of topics, ranging from daily management, mental health and other disease related issues. The platform operates in English as well as Spanish.

During the first year, Beyond Type 2 reached a large proportion of the population, providing thousands of people with its unique services. Moreover, its remarkable growth rate has put it on the path to serve an even larger population, possible millions, worldwide in 2020. It’s also planning on launching some new ideas and services the following year.

Thom Scher, President and CEO of Beyond Type 1, talked about their innovative project saying, “When we launched Beyond Type 2, we set a big goal: to radically change what it means to live with Type 2 diabetes”.

He further continued, “The community stories and voices that we’ve heard and shared show the world what it means to live boldly with Type 2 diabetes. We have learned a tremendous amount about how to best engage and educate this community over the course of the first year, and we are thrilled to build on that heading into year two”.

President of the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE), Kellie Antinori, said, “Every day, Beyond Type 2 is providing great resources and addressing misinformation and stigma about Type 2 diabetes. The need for peer-to-peer connection, a judgement-free zone, and a unified voice for people with diabetes cannot be understated. That’s why we’re excited to continue to work with Beyond Type 2 in 2020.”

On the account of the first anniversary of their successful platform, Beyond Type 1 also announced a new partner for the upcoming year – Insulet. Insulet is now a part of the four founding fathers who will be supporting the project in its second year. The previous ones include, Abbott, Roche Diabetes Care, Lilly Diabetes and AADE.

Insulet’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Shacey Petrovic, said, “We are excited to partner with Beyond Type 2 in supporting their efforts to build a more supportive community and provide greater education for the Type 2 community. The simplicity, discretion and ease-of-use of the Omnipod System make it an appealing and beneficial technology for those living with Type 2 diabetes. We share in Beyond Type 2’s mission to further educate, engage with and support this community.”
