he United Kingdom is to go into a complete lockdown situation from Monday evening and no one would be allowed to go outside except for food or medicines. The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has made this announcement after the statistics reported that the UK is merely two weeks behind than Italy where coronavirus has created chaos.
The PM, in his statement to media, said that; “From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction — you must stay at home,”
He also declared that people are allowed to go outside for only “a very limited purposes” and should otherwise avoid going out.
The limited purpose as per Boris includes the following. He has also announced to shut all such stores which sell other than essential goods. In addition to that, playgrounds, parks, libraries, cinemas, churches and all other places with public gatherings are shut down.
He has also declared a ban on a gathering of two or more people while being in public. But it excludes those people who live under the same roof or otherwise together. This ban is also expanded to weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, baptisms and all other types of ceremonies but not the funerals.
All these rules are to be imposed through the British police. Those who would refuse to follow these rules would be imposed with a hefty fine, Jhonson said.
All restaurants, gyms, theaters and other public entertainment points were already shut down from last week. But now this lockdown has expanded to all places except food stores and pharmacies.
Johnson said that it is necessary to end all types of social interactions if we want to beat coronavirus. Upon social interactions, he said; “You should not be meeting friends.”
“If your friends ask you to meet, you should say ‘No.’ You should not be meeting family members who do not live in your home,” he further added.
The political opponents of Johnson have somehow also welcomed this new announcement made by him. Jeremy Corbyn from the Labour party said that;
“The Prime Minister is right to call for people to stay at home, protect our NHS and save lives,” and “This is the right response to the coronavirus pandemic, and one we have been calling for.
He further shared that;
“There now needs to be clear guidance to employers and workers about which workplaces should close – and the Government must close the loopholes to give security to all workers, including the self-employed, as well as renters and mortgage holders. We welcome these moves and will be working to ensure everybody has the protection and security they need.”
This announcement has been made after the numerous reports telling that the British Prime Minister is under constant pressure to lock down the whole country. It is suggested that the UK lockdown was somehow “inevitable.”
The recent reports suggest that the death toll in the UK is extremely high and it is only two weeks behind Italy. That is why the government was under extreme stress and pressure to do the needful.
