Coronavirus Cases in Florida Hit 100,000 Milestone

The US has the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world currently. Recently, many states crossed 100,000 coronavirus cases in the US. The latest surge in cases in Florida came forward after the Department of Health reported new infections. According to the latest figures, the total number of coronavirus cases in Florida is now 100,217 after the state department reported 2,926 new cases. Moreover, the number of fatalities reached 3,173 in Florida.

Six other states in the US also reported an increase in coronavirus cases with passing the 100,000 cases milestone. These states include New York, New Jersey, Illinois, California, Massachusetts, and Texas.

The recent surge in coronavirus cases in Florida is due to the increased testing capacity of the state, according to Governor Ron DeSantis. The rate of COVID infections rose exponentially over the past couple of weeks. The highest number of cases recorded until now was on Saturday with 4,049 new infections.

Previously, Florida tested people with coronavirus symptoms only or people of older age during March and April. However, the testing capacity increased within the past weeks and people from all age groups can now get tested for the coronavirus, with or without symptoms.

The Governor of Florida said that most of the recent coronavirus cases include the younger population who are asymptomatic. Mainly the new infections include people aged from the 20s to 30s. The coronavirus is rapidly prevailing among younger adults.

The average age of people tested coronavirus positive previously was around 65 but it declined rapidly within the past months. The median age for new infections is now below 30 which is a huge shift, said DeSantis.

He also said that the number of coronavirus cases in Florida is increasing rapidly. The new cases are mostly seen in younger people. Recently, numerous bars closed across Florida for some time after the staff and customers tested positive for the virus. This shows that the transmission of coronavirus increased in the people aged from 20 to 30.

The Department of Health of Florida issued the preventive guidelines for coronavirus infection once again. The experts advised the public to ensure social distancing and maintain a distance of at least six feet at all times. They also asked the people to wear a face mask as much as possible.

DeSantis said that even though the coronavirus cases in Florida surged over the past weeks, the state will not take back the decision of reopening business across the state. Despite the increase in number or coronavirus cases, the number of hospitalizations remains low. A greater number of people admitted to the hospital over the past few months. Also, the number of fatalities related to coronavirus are low for the past seven weeks.

The coronavirus infection in younger people is generally less fatal due to which the state is not implementing another lockdown despite the surge in cases. The governor said that the state did not report any coronavirus related death in people aged below 18 for a long time.

Even though the coronavirus cases in Florida surged over the past weeks, the state stands on its decision of reopening business. People are also returning to their normal life while following the preventive practices for the coronavirus infection.
