Health Leaders Share Concerns Over the Second Wave of Coronavirus in the UK

The Prime Minister of the UK, Boris Johnson announced to ease he lockdown across the country. He announced to open bars, restaurants, and pubs after major changes in lockdown. Meanwhile, the number of deaths due to coronavirus in the UK is only increasing. The experts also fear that there is a second wave of coronavirus in the UK coming soon.

The death toll in the UK reached 43,081 after the latest number of 154 deaths recorded. Many people died all across the UK over the past couple of weeks. However, the Department of Health announced that they will help NHS in every possible way and provide them all kinds of assistance.

Shortly after the authorities eased the shutdown, the leading health experts signed an open letter warning about the second wave of coronavirus in the UK. The letter was signed by prominent health leaders including the presidents of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons, Physicians, GPs and Nursing signed this open letter.

The letter published in the British Medical Journal. The health leaders warned about the ministers about the possible disaster due to the second wave of coronavirus in the UK. The experts mentioned that the authorities need to take strict action to save lives from the coronavirus.

The social distancing rules in the UK also changed after Boris Johnson’s announcement. The previous rule of maintaining a distance of 2m reduced to one meter. However, the people are advised to maintain a distance of one meter only when wearing a mask. Otherwise, people should follow the 2m distance rule as much as possible.

Some areas including North Ireland, Wales, and Scotland will still stick to the 2m social distancing rule.

The chief scientific adviser of the government, Sir Patrick Vallance and the chief medical officer for England Professor Chris Whitty, both addressed the lockdown situation in the Downing Street coronavirus update on Tuesday. Both of them said that the major ease in lockdown involves a huge risk in the increased transmission of coronavirus.

After the announcement, the health leaders asked the authorities to assess their preparation to counter another coronavirus outbreak. The experts mentioned in their letter that the second wave of coronavirus in the UK is imminent.

They also wrote that it is hard to predict the future of the coronavirus outbreak in the UK. However, it is expected to surge in some areas and the government should be prepared at all times. They also wrote that the authorities should assess the coronavirus risk without blaming each other.

The government needs to take immediate action to save the lives of people. Also, they should work to improve the economy of the country which faced a major shock due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The UK increased the coronavirus testing capacity immensely over the past couple of months. But it still needs some improvements to fight the coronavirus. Although the experts are discussing a possible second wave of coronavirus in the UK, no one can tell for sure if it will happen.

The coronavirus cases will surge in vulnerable areas in the coming weeks, according to the experts. Meanwhile, the public should stick to the social distancing rules and wear protective masks when outside. Also, they should try to work from home as much as possible.
