Some of these people prefer working out at the gym and do exercises such as push-ups, squats, burpees, etc. But those who do push-ups would be surprised to know that a majority of them are doing it the wrong way.
As strange as it may sound, the fitness expert, Sam Wood says that most people do these push-ups wrong way. He says that these simple-looking exercises are the most difficult to follow and continue which can easily go wrong and no one would notice.
In an interview, he said that everyone tries to do a push-up even if they aren’t at that stage where they can do it the right way. The truth is that at that point they are not that strong to do a push-up right.
So in an attempt to do a push-up they often end up doing it wrong. It usually ends at worst and the person doing it is also likely to get an injury.
It may not sound problematic but when a person puts all his weight on arms and toes in a wrong way, this posture could cause disastrous effects. However, it doesn’t mean that people should stop doing push-ups, he further said.
Sam Wood has described a way to get it right. He suggests starting doing it from a point that is tolerable by your body. For example, a person who is new to exercise can start doing pushups by putting his hands to a higher level i.e. a bench. Once he starts doing it, his body will adapt to it.

After a few days, he can change this bench to something lower and continue the practice. After that, he can try the push-ups directly on the floor and he will do it rightly.
This swapping technique is essential to do any exercise correctly. If a person directly starts doing push-ups from the floor, there are chances that his body would refuse to carry all this weight. either he will end up at an injury or he will lose his posture while doing push-ups. Either way, it is a disaster that everyone should avoid.
Follow these for doing a push-up correctly.
- The back should be straight and make sure that the core is engaged.
- The butt should not be lifted but down while doing a push-up.
- The body should not make a curve but a line.
He suggests anyone who is new to exercise to ask a friend or trainer to help with his posture. It is necessary to do these exercises right way if someone wants true benefits from them.
