CDC has recently changed the quarantine guidelines for people who suspect that they are exposed to the virus. The duration of the quarantine period has been reduced to 7 days only. However, many health experts agree that this short quarantine period possess more risk to spread the virus as the virus normally takes 4-12 days to show its self.
The U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has changed the guidelines for all COVID-19 pandemic-related quarantine and reduced the number of days which people have to spend in isolation.
According to CDC officials, there is sufficient data that the new quarantine period is equally effective. He said that the quarantine could end after 10 days of isolation if the person doesn’t develop any signs, or he can also end quarantine after 7 if he is tested negative.
CDC urges all local health bodies to imply these new CDC quarantine guidelines. Although the agency has reduced the quarantine period but still advises people to monitor themselves for any signs for full 14 days.
Dr. John Brooks is the chief medical officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He says that this new 10-day quarantine period will increase the risk of spreading coronavirus up to 12%. But if a person carefully monitors himself after this time and refrain from meeting people or breaking social distancing, he can lower this risk. But he agrees that the risk is involved.
A person is still capable of spreading it to other people even after passing this 10-day quarantine. It is also possible to transmit the virus if a person is tested negative after seven days as there are still chances for him to carry the virus. During this time a suspected person should follow all the necessary precautionary measures which include wearing a mask, practicing hand hygiene, and maintain social distancing.
CDC says that it is trying to make quarantine easy for people. The previous 14-day quarantine period was ‘too long’ for most people. So, reducing this time period is actually helpful for people to pass this hard time while the world passes through a deadly pandemic.
This short duration pandemic is increasing the pressure on minority groups and local communities where the infection spreads like anything. Despite these short duration quarantine, the new cases are rapidly increasing.
If a person suspects that he has contracted the virus, it is better to isolate at home, maintain a social distance from everyone, avoid touching common surfaces, and maintain healthy hygiene.
The Covid-19 vaccine will soon be available and if a maximum number of people are vaccinated, the risk of new infections will automatically decline. Winter holidays are approaching and it is the peak time for the virus to spread. But following the CDC’s guidelines for a safe holiday during a pandemic.
It is better to stay at home and avoid going to large gatherings, even if a person has to travel somewhere, it is better to travel with all standard protocols. In case a person suspects that he is exposed, he should immediately get tested and warn his recent contacts.
