Many doctors confirm that Covid-19 patients are experiencing runny nose and other flu-like symptoms, suggesting it may be another sign of coronavirus. In one whole year, there is so much about coronavirus that came forward, which has made it easier to manage the pandemic and save people from death. The signs of coronavirus range from stomach distress, headache, rashes, fatigue, and runny nose. However, only three symptoms have been constantly coined as standard signs; cough, fever and loss of smell/taste.
But is it enough to identify a person for this deadly virus? While the number of asymptomatic cases are increasing, health experts suggest to pay attention to all the body changes, even if they don’t match with the ‘standard signs of coronavirus’. Many doctors have confirmed the presence of runny noses in their patients which can also be a sign of coronavirus.
Before the fall season hit last year, there was so much confusion on how to identify a potential Covid-19 case if there are mixed or unclear signs. While the flu cases significantly grow before winter hits, at this time, it needs more than just a change of mind. Runny nose, flu, and many others may also represent coronavirus exposure in a person even with the absence of fever, cough, and loss of smell and taste.
Health experts agree that coronavirus signs can sometimes look like flu signs which makes a person believe that he is fit to go into public and meet people. little he knows is that he is exposing everyone around him to the virus which can take his life if he belongs to a high-risk group.
The doctors from London report that they are regularly meeting patients who experience mild flu-like symptoms but are confirmed with coronavirus later. They have widened their range of symptoms and now considering patients reporting unusual symptoms, hoping to find out if the viral symptoms have taken a new shape, like the virus itself.
The problem with a runny nose and other common signs is that people never think that they could be Covid-19 positive so they never follow home isolation and end up infecting their family and friends.
Considering that the virus is the most virulent during the early days of infection, this whole situation is frightening. It is also possible for these flu-like symptoms to turn into Covid-19 signs later on. Many patients can’t undergo the test unless they have at least one of the ‘approved’ Covid-19 symptoms. A runny nose is not considered as the standard Covid-19 symptom, people with minor complaints never get tested.
Healthcare staff shares that most patients coming to the hospital initially report fatigue, headache, runny nose or diarrhea only. They also confirm that people may have to lie in order to get a Covid-19 test done because none of these are considered as a warning sign for coronavirus.
On the other side, World Health Organisation (WHO) acknowledges these flu or cold-like symptoms as coronavirus signs. Hence, the health experts suggest that government should update its Covid-19 symptoms list, adding these new signs to save more people from misdiagnosis and complications caused by Covid-19.
